As many of you know, two bills will be passed in the US Congress as early as tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18. This will seriously impair the internet freedom of all of us worldwide. To show what this will do too our worldwide web, Wikipedia has blocked its irreplaceable website today.
SOPA and PIPA claim to stop internet piracy. But what it will do is seriously hamper the internet's function through impeding its underlining process, closing down websites, and preventing us from freely communicating with each other world wide.
According to Mozilla, "The question is... is the general public even aware of the threat SOPA and PIPA has in relation to their Internet-browsing freedom? Or are the cries of Mozilla, {a few senators} and the rest who oppose the misguided Internet legislation going largely unheard? In other words, how much coverage is this subject even getting from the mainstream media?
In addition, once these bills are passed, other countries will be encouraged by the US government to similarly censor their own internet.
We cannot let the internet as we know it be destroyed.
Please help, even if you live in another country. Sign online petitions today if you have time. Contact your friends in other countries to let US representatives know that you disapprove of these bills.
If you live in the US, please call your senators and sign online petitions as well.
We have to stop this before it's too late and the ease with which we are all now able to communicate destroyed.
