In past posts I've mentioned how people I know personally have been affected by astrological aspects in their natal charts, as well to how planetary transits are influencing their charts.
If a person doesn't know the basic dynamics of her chart, including the elements (fire, air, water, earth) and predominant houses, it's difficult to interpret how the transits are affecting him or her.
Another problem that can occur, however: almost the reverse. And that is in knowing your own chart well, the details of planets and degrees can obscure how they play out in terms of the whole.
In the current sky, for example, several planets are in earth (grounding, stabilizing), including, for a couple of days, the moon. Concurrently, Mercury, Venus, and Uranus are still in fire, and the sun will move into another fire sign, Sagittarius, on the 22nd. It helps to know how many earth and fire planets are in your natal chart and in which houses.
